Seems like they intentionally downplayed the fact it's a musical
Very little to indicate this is a musical. Maybe they don't think it will have as broad of appeal?

shareMusicals are an acquired taste. I was excited watching the Super Bowl trailer until I found out it was a musical. Now I’m just meh. Hopefully it’s not too much music and just an actual film.
shareMy wife loves the stage version, but filmed musicals don't exactly draw either of us in.
shareMovie musicals used to be better than the stage versions.
shareYup, they made some amazing adaptations. Seems like the slump started in the 90s.
shareI would say more like in the 1970s. There’s Man of La Mancha and The Wiz.
shareThere were some great Broadway adaptations in the 80s, but looking back, they were all early 80s. Annie, Best Little Whorehouse, Little Shop of Horrors...man, these were great. And there were originals too, luke Popeye, that were a lot of fun. The recent Wonka had a reminiscent vibe to that time. I really enjoyed it.
shareRight, I wasn’t saying they were all bad, just that it started a little sooner than you said. I love Little Shop of Horrors. I started getting into that one after one of my best friends played Audrey II in an onstage production of it.
sharedespite going to public school, I had a very religious drama teacher who wouldn't do anything she deemed inappropriate. Man eating plant wouldn't have been ok. She wouldn't even let us do Grease, lol.
shareI remember reading the stage musical script for Grease, and it had surprisingly a ton of swearing and F bombs.
With that said, I do think the movie is way better than the stage show.
Her biggest issue was the idea that the innocent girl turned to bad behavior to get the boy.
shareYes, she is not the only one to hate that ending. Lots of people did, including fans of the movie Grease.
My biggest issue is certain iconic songs are missing, most notably “Hopelessly Devoted to You” and “You're the One that I Want”. The latter had this other song called “I’m All Shook Up” in its place in the stage show and man it suuuuuucks.
