Charlotte's breakdown

Charlotte always had this picture in her head of how her family life should be. It did not include a screaming toddler or a rambunctious kiddo. She felt she had to have the perfect home, the perfect husband, the perfect kids and be the perfect housewife. When this wasn't going to plan, she felt overwhelmed and like a failure. Yes, she had a nanny to help, but she did try to be hands on as well.

I don't know if she knew kids cried and screamed for attention or what.

As for wearing the vintage skirt, she was dressing how she always dressed before. She didn't know that Lily would come up behind her to slap her bum...why would she? She didn't think that Lily would act like that.

Well it's kind of common sense when you are doing any kind of activities that involve young children, things may get a little messy! I personally would not wear an expensive vintage white dress if I was making cupcakes with my kids.

This is really late in replying lol sorry. I get that it's silly, but Charlotte in her head has this picture perfect life she wants....where moms get dressed up and do things with their kids.
She only wears workout clothing for working out, I'm fairly certain she doesn't wear jeans. She's rich, so she's going to have expensive clothing. There isn't anything for her to wear that is practical during these activities (she should know better.)

She had to have a picture perfect life. Look at her magazine shoot when she was married to Trey for House and Garden. Then the engagement picture with Harry, she had to have everything perfect because that's how she sees her life.

I always thought of her as a 1950's mom wannabe, they wore pretty dresses and heels while cleaning house, grocery shopping, baking ect.

Plus, I think she had the picture perfect family life when they just had Lily but when rose came along she threw a spanner in the works. Also, I gather that most of her clothes were designer or vintage so probably didn't have much choice.

MissPixie, I agree. I do recall during the series run, that Charlotte owned and wore more casual clothing when the situation warranted it. There was the horseback riding episode that she was in jeans, all of the episodes she jogged in, the miscarriage episode, and I distinctly remember her in some "Juicy Couture-esque" type sweats during the tea bag/naked Harry episode. Of course we don't know the exact situation surrounding this particular day she decided to wear a vintage white skirt to bake in, but she certainly owned/previously owned more appropriate attire for such an activity.
