The trapped ghosts and the portal to hell were similar. Like both movies could exist in the same universe.

In Thirteen Ghosts the house was a machine that needed 13 specific ghosts to power it and open 'the Eye of Hell'. In Cabin in the Woods, it was the 5 stereotypical horror characters needed to keep the portal shut.
shareI see. So the opposite, the unwitting victims had a role in keeping a portal to hell shut, that being the carnage the Ancient Gods could heap on mankind, as opposed to opening it. Interesting point.
