Sony did it again.

reply

Metascore: 20 from 6 critics (late Dec 25). Can't reviewers be bothered?

Imdb: 10 of 13 reviews were fake 1*. Other three were higher than critics.
Update, more review but same pattern. Fake 1*s may be offended by "trump joke"?

reply

Now 24 from 14 critics. None positive.

reply

Trump joke wasn't really that bad, was kind of funny because it didn't go to far or just get nasty like most liberal anti-Trumpers do.

reply

dear god this must be one of worst movies ever...

RT score 4%...

Cinemascore D+

Sony tried to sell the movie to netflix after Test scores were the worst they had ever seen...Netflix wanted no part of it...

This is sad..I love Will Ferrell

reply

From the one critic who gave this a positive review...

I should mention that the audience left the theater in a good mood, unaware (it was the 12:55 p.m. show) of Holmes & Watson’s Rotten Tomatoes score, which hovered for a while at 0. I’m happy to bump that up, partly because I cherish the Ferrell-Reilly team, partly because of that musical number. I also worry that we undervalue silliness as we fight the larger fight against ignorance and mendacity in all its manifestations. No brain cells are harmed by Holmes & Watson, just given a few hours to rest and regenerate.

reply

I actually enjoyed and the musical number was quite good. You could tell it was written by the same guy that did Galavant... I expected to hate it... but it really is funny in a silly way.

reply

It may be dumb enough to keep people entertained.

People like Batman and Robin, Battlefield Earth, the Room, Ghostbusters (the Fieg edition) and Suicide Squad. There's always an audience.

reply

A few of those had very poor box-office performances, indicating people didn't like them. The others had very good marketing, but almost universally all of those are disliked,at least I assumed.

reply

Correction:

A co worker of mine saw the movie with hope it would build a following like Talladega Nights or Step Brothers.

He said it was awful.

This co-worker is the demographic for this movie.

reply

Yep - looks like a total clusterfuck.

reply

There is really no way critics are going to find anything positive to say.
I just saw it. Admittedly I laughed at some of the stuff. However the movie was simply "all over the place". The plot was almost plotless. Much was just stupid and with no real reason to the stupidity.
I cant really call it a "spoof" of Holmes and Watson although that is all it can be considered.
Some of the humor was current and topical. But others seemed to have no foundation or logic that I could see. I KNOW that critics will be a lot more critical than I am.
This is just not the sort of thing that will impress them in any manner.

reply

The audience scores are pretty bad as well so I guess this is something both critics and audiences can agree on.

reply

Ouch.

The thing is, Ferrell and OReilly can be very good... or very self-indulgent. I hope they take the coming storm of abuse as a wake-up call, and stop making horrible self-indulgent films like this.

reply

Guess "Into the Spider-Verse" didn't fix everything.

Now 9% "positive" on RT as of now (1/3/19). It appears that 4 critics liked it. I'm wondering who these critics are and if they saw the same movie the other 52 reviewers saw.

Quite frankly, the only thing that's funny to me is that Will Ferrell starred in such a bomb. He's beyond his comedic stage and his moment. His tired gags are so predicable.
