Johnny Depp' character tells the gondola driver "Gracias" as he steps off the boat in Venice.

He should have told him "Grazie" since they are in Venice Italy NOT Spain.

That was intentional.. It was a running joke throughout the movie. Johnny's character kept speaking in Spanish because he didn't know any Italian.

I liked when the Italian man responded to Depp's gracias with the Spanish de nada (instead of prego).
