Jasper Newell and Ezra Miller, who portray the son of John C. Reilly & Tilda Swinton, both these boys look mixed race.
Why were they cast? Not just one obvious non-white actor, but both of them non-white, to portray the biological child of white people?
Because they were skilled performers, and I doubt for any other reason.

Ezra Miller is fully white not mixed. I do think the child actors were part Asian though probably cast due to resemblance to Ezra. He does look mixed Asian but he isn't actually. I do wonder if some relative way down his family line was Asian though.

Admittably they had a bit exotic look to them but it happens.
I think Ezra Miller was cast in the role because it looks as if he could be Tilda Swinton’s son. The younger boys would then have been cast because they look like they could grow up to look like Ezra Miller.
