shareNone of the three really have anything to do with each other. There is a small (and I mean small) connection between #1 & #2, but #3 is completely seperate.
I wouldn't rank this one anywhere close to the first, but it's still worth watching. And it's still infinitely better than #2.
Don't watch 2 at all
shareWell, not really.
The 3 films have a different character with a different story.
The only common things are the rules established about time travel in the 1st.
The 2nd is pretty much a rehash of the first minus the cleverness. It is a decent film but nowhere near as good.
This one, again, has nothing on the 1st film, but at least attempts something different and uses the time travels to a much different effect, and keeps you guessing since the different timelines are not the same as in the other. I reccmmend it more than the 2nd, but, if you get the chance, watch that as well since it does have some interesting things. (However, my personal taste for it was influenced by the Director's Cut of the 1st, since it uses some things from it, which may come off as original to someone who watched the theatrical version, but not quite to someone who saw the DC).
Avoid the 2nd one. Please. Its a very incomplete movie that takes the most basic elements of the first but doesnt follow it through to make a complete and meaty storyline.
As for the 1st one...I'd say avoid the director's cut. Its ending is inconsistent with the main story and comes across as being more than a little contrived. There are several versions of the theatrical cut ending you can chose from on the DVD.
I know one thing baby...you will survive.
the directors cut in the first one was the original ending the others were made after because people would think it was similar to abortion or miscarriage, the ending does follow the story tho, none of the events would have happened had evan never been born, kayleigh's dad molesting her and hitting tommy, the mailbox exploding and his dog getting burnt alive, the reason it happened was because Kayleigh had a crush on evan so stayed with her abusive father, without him there kayleigh and tommy leave leaving lenny to grow up with friends and kayleigh and tommy to grow up without the torments, the other endings were a different way around it all.

All of the films are not directly related, but I do recommend watching Butterfly Effect 2 before you watch this one in order to get a better understanding of the story.
shareThe second movie has no connection to the third movie.
Even the methods used for time travel are different.
The third movie has more odd and surprising twists like the first movie.
The second movie was a major disppointment, and I was so relieved the third movie was better because people have been trashing it, and I did not know why, since I deliberately kept myself ignorant of the plot so I could be surprised.
For rewatching, I will start with the first, skip the second and finish with the third.
I loved one, two was a dissapointment and three was really good.
