No honor in horror movies

This fact hit me hard in the merry-go-round scene:

Not one of them said, "Take my life, so that someone will live."

Chivalry and honor do not exist in horror movies, which I get because it's "scarier" to watch someone beg for his/her life before the end; however, why can't a few people do the noble thing?

reply

Not that this sequel deserves much defending, but let us keep in mind the type of victims typically chosen for the Saw series. It makes sense for a great deal of them to not be noble. Of course, in this installment we aren't viewing criminals and junkies but rather business people simply doing their (soul sucking) jobs. No one that I've met who works in insurance enjoys the claim denials or how it affects others. This group of victims, while perhaps morally ambiguous, were definitely the least deserving of torment and had the possibility to show the least cut throat attitudes.

Because the whole point of the Saw series is that Jigsaw targets people who show very little appreciation for others, let alone themselves. A noble person likely wouldn't be targeted by Jigsaw.

reply

That's not the point of the Saw series, but rather just the point of Jigsaw. The point of the series is that Jigsaw is full of crap and a total psychopath.

Because nobility is just an abstract concept. Survival instinct is far more powerful. Very few people would willingly just die for strangers.

Can't stop the signal.

I'm waiting for an "honor trap". You're given a button to release the other person, but it will eliminate your own (minute) chance of survival. In actuality, the only way out is by pressing the button, which saves you and the other person isn't actually in danger.

reply

Well it exists, just in the games, at the beginning of Saw II the game you get to make the decision on weather the charater your playing get to live on (bare in mind he has terminal cancer) and soend his last days with his son or give his life up for someone much younger the himself to live on .-.

Pointing me out on spelling is just one hell of a poor argument..

to be fair, they where all scumbag youngsters mostly that where only for themselves in the first place and worked with him, they also judged other people in life or death cases their probablility ratings for survival, i wasnt surprised people like that fought to save their own life, they probably saw the person next to them as just another scumbag, despite them also being one.

reply

Why should you judge people as scumbags? Especially ordinary people.
