Contact with wife

Great movie. Just a quick question. In the starting we see Gu-nam not having any contact with his wife for a long time, which in turn drives the plot in motion. Any reasons as to why she didn't contact him?

reply

they imply several times very strongly that many Chinese Korean ethnic girls go to South Korea to earn money being prostitutes or find ''rich'' husband or bf, so must have been her case

But a woman is shown getting off a train at the end which we can assume is his wife. So, she didn't run off with someone else.

yes but if i am not wrong there are 2 huge details which I think the director made on purpose;

- except her we don't see anyone else on the platform or in the train , not one single person (and the city where it takes place in China as you see in the movie is a big city very populated, not countryside)

- there are absolutely no sign or board on the platform signaling the station / city name

this leads me to believe that he was dreaming and the wife did not come back , especially the first detail of her being totally alone on the platform.
