Why so many factual errors?

I'm all for a bit of artistic licence but why so many factual errors? The first thing that struck me was it being inferred Clough never managed Brighton, how did that enhance the film? Plus lots of the other errors looked of little significance so why not get them right?

They never showed him managing Brighton.

"The elderly, they seem friendly enough, but can you really trust them ?"

The factual errors are just pure lazy writing as Peter Morgan could have told exactly the same story with the real facts. He invents the 'snub' of Clough by Revie when he could have used the game where Revie sent out a second string team against Derby as their point of falling out.
