I am *beep* more like.

This is an example of what I call 'The Emperors new film'. It is a beautifully filmed piece and granted does have amazing cinematography. However Tilda produced this film really just as a vanity project. Learning Russian and Italian??? Ummm hows about you just do it in English?! The story is so boring and the characters so underdeveloped that you really can't and don't care for their success or demise. There was even a scene that had the audience laughing as it was just such pretentious twaddle. Although Tilda is certainly a very good actress - one thing she did not accomplish much to the detriment of the film was a good sex scene. It just was uncomfortable and entirely unsexy! Note: when kissing someone do not just continue to keep your mouth open while the other person kisses around it. I very nearly saw my popcorn again....rank.

Before the 'oh go and watch a Die hard boxset' onslaught begins, I do have a background in cultural studies and a BA in filmstudies. I love film but am honest enough and not pretentious enough to sit in awe inspired silence at the end of a a beautifully presented but entirely flawed film.

Anyone gets a degree in Film Studies these days...

reply

Ummmmmmmm - anyone can get a degree in ANYTHING if they put the work in. I think that was a failed insult. Like saying a degree in film is in some way inferior to a degree in for example History.....it is level of education. Arguments like this really do show up inferiority complexes infinit zero.....

Maybe I wasn't clear in my previous comment. Sorry for my English.
What I meant was, for someone with a degree in Film Studies, your response to the film seems pretty amateurish and quite banal.
