Why should it be a japanese actress?

In every anime, all the caracters are white...

It wouldn't be relatable. You must learn to appreciate movies for what they are and what they are trying to accomplish. I love Ghost In The Shell.. but each movie and series I've seen. Motoko looks more and more like a white female.

reply

Thats because they all stand apart from each other. Each new animation team have their own take on what she looks like. Some people cant seem to understand that.

reply

Yeah I completely understand that it's obvious. I'm saying since that is the case, it shouldn't matter if she's American.

reply

Agreed. Even if the production team wanted to make her a dark skinned Latin they could have. When you have the rights and the money, you can do whatever you want to a story.

reply

A dark skinned latin... exactly.

reply

Relatable? If a film features a character with a skin tone/sex and/or culture other than your own, do you immediately turn it off?

It is a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing .

reply

For me personally? No I like all types of film. But for the masses? It's a big possibility. Something the studios wouldn't risk with the money they put up.

reply

Thats what the SJWs dont understand. The money aspect of it. All they see is whitewashing, not studios trying to get as much money out of the film as possible.

And so Governor Devlin, because even the cost of freedom can be too high, I REFUSE your pardon!

reply

Maybe we ought not to continue to pander to people who are afraid to look past their noses. Just a thought .

reply

Well the world doesn't really work that way. You want to be successful on this Earth your going to have to compromise. Almost all the time.

reply

But they should compromise. I mean the small percentage of the actual fans of the anime that care about the casting should be happy. And also the SJWs should be happy. Lets make the fans happy, who cares about the money!....said no studio EVER.

reply

Lol I would argue that the makers of Deadpool cared about the fans... but that character just writes itself lol

reply

Well Deadpool got made for one reason and one reason only, Ryan Reynolds. If the test footage wasnt 'accidentally' leaked after sitting on the shelf for how many years. The film would have never been made. Not only that, but Fox gave them such a low budget it was ridicules. They obviously didnt think it was going to make much...how wrong they were.

this coming from a cracker bitching that ghost buster was crap since the studio did not care about the fan base. once again double standerd from a white supremacist.

GB was a failure because the studio and the film makers disrespected the fans. And no, not by changing the sex of the cast, but by completely turning the franchise into something it wasnt. And than shoving their version down our throats, oh and if you dont like you well you are simply a woman hater and misogynist pig. Ghost isnt doing that, not even close. In fact from the footage we have seen I think they are trying to capture the visuals of Ghost, and IMO that means something. So once again talking like a little troll and a stupid one at that.

That's not "compromise". Compromise implies reaching a sort of halfway point.

Whitewashing is straight up adhering to the status quo. By the way, this practice (especially in the states) is going to start to falter once the majority-minority balance starts to tip in the coming decades.

The character in Ghost in the Shell has blue eyes though? Doesn't that make her white? Since when do Asian people have blue eyes? Unless she has blue eyes cause she is a robot/cyborg?

reply

Her eye color changes depending on the version of Ghost in the Shell. Since she is a cyborg, eye color isn't that hard to manipulate.

Kusanagi is not white. She is Japanese and looks Japanese. That is clear to anyone that has actually read/watched Ghost in the Shell in its various forms.

reply

Well she is white now... get over it loser.

The kind of non-response that only a person who knows they lost would ever make. 

reply

How did i loose? I have no preference for what race is cast in this movie. You are the one that been crying for days.

I'm pretty sure you mean "lose".

I have no preference for what race is cast in this movie.

Says the guy defending the whitewashing throughout this board.

You are the one that been crying for days.

Ah, more projection from you. 

Oh okay. I only saw the 1995 movie, and I couldn't tell if she was Asian or not, since all the characters seem to be open to interpretation. The antagonist for example, had blonde hair and green eyes if I recall correct.

I assume that the protagonist is suppose to be Japanese because of her name. But since Scarlet Johanson is white, wouldn't they just give her a name of more white heritage, rather than a Japanese name, so it would fit her better? They are not going to give her the same Japanese character name, are they?

I did an entire post explaining this. I recommend you read it: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1219827/board/thread/256248784

Well, they already have a Japanese actress playing her mother in the movie. Not only does this show that the makers of this movie know that the character is Japanese but it only highlights the ridiculousness of the whitewashing even more. At that point, it doesn't matter if they give her a Japanese name or not.

Being white based on their skin color, eyes and every physical aspect?

You don't say! I thought they were all aliens, with purple eyes and green hair and stuff!

Because Asians shouldn't be wiped out of Hollywood or relegated to stereotypical roles. Hey guys, the World and America isn't only white people. There can be main characters that aren't white.

As for the OP, the character's name is Motoko Kusanagi and anime characters don't look anatomically human. They look like anime characters. Cartoon characters. Highly stylized.

In the case of the major she becomes nude to turn invisible and we know Scarjo doesn't mind being nude.

How many Japanese actresses are willing to pose nude?
