Jet Fighters

The aliens gained air superiority through their drones. Is that to say they even shot down our fighters? Or that they merely dominated our skies with their speed and deployment? If you watch the battle scenes you don't see any fighter jets shot down. Furthermore in the street scene before the bomb drop, you can see our fighters still attacking their drones.

Thoughts?

If impersonating a Police Officer is an offence, shouldn't actors be imprisoned?

The drones the aliens used didn't seem all that fast, not compared to a fighter, however the F/A-18 isn't built to dogfight, it's a multirole with a larger lean on attack then fighter. That being said, I would say the reason they were edged out was sheer numbers, I doubt they lost all that many F/A-18s, their weaponry didn't seem to be missile based, more energy, a lucky shot would have been needed to take a Hornet out the sky, so I think they just either ran out of ammo and/or were swamped by the sheer number of alien aircraft in the sky.

That is the leading idea. For whatever reason, our aircraft could not deny the enemy air power. I do not remember ever seeing a single fight or bomber ever being destroyed.

Thanks guys, it's an interesting depiction of air superiority. Usually you'd expect one side to decimate the other side's aircraft but in this case. Both sides could operate their fast attack aircraft but it was merely down to one overwhelming the other in terms of numbers rather than firepower.

I am not sure why they never actually shown aircraft being shot down other than that helicopter that was destroyed at the police station though it has been over a year since I have seen this movie.

I think this was deliberate as to highlight the aliens' superiority whilst depicting mankind's dogged determination. If you notice on the rooftop scene, you can see still see F-18s attacking the drone. When they're moving the injured civilian through the ravaged streets of L.A, you can see F-18s attacking their drones under flak fire and a marine remarking "Those are our jets! We're still in the fight".

I think it's dumb not to show some kind of fatalities but it is what it is.

our aircrafts cant maneuver like the aliens. The aliens can stop in mid and and go any direction. Also our jets dont have many missles. we need to call up tony stark or robotech and get those missles that fire 100 little missles.

i'm sure we'll have mecha (or something like it) in maybe 30 to 50 years. I hear that there have already been experimentation with exoskeletons .
