Aliens broke the Geneva convention treaty
Those aliens shot fire on the medical transport helicopter which was full of injured soldiers. *tsk tsk* bad aliens...

shareAnd all the civilians they killed does not count either? Besides that chopper was a combat chopper, not a medical one.
shareYour facetiousness aside, they're not a signatory power of the Geneva Convention therefore not bound by it, which means neither are we .
If impersonating a Police Officer is an offence, shouldn't actors be imprisoned?
Yes, I thought about saying exactly what you said but since he obviously isn't being serious, why should I?
shareWhether he's taking the piss or not, it raises an interesting question about how our 'convention on war' would apply with aliens or anything extra-terrestrial.
If impersonating a Police Officer is an offence, shouldn't actors be imprisoned?
I don't think no one would care. I have yet to see an alien invasion movie where the aliens do not kill civilians.
shareIt's not about how the aliens act but how we do considering we have a convention on war. No, no-one would care and if it's total war with extermination being the result if we lost. Then ethics would fly out of the window as it usually does in war.
If impersonating a Police Officer is an offence, shouldn't actors be imprisoned?
True but it would be interesting to see the thought process of aliens completely ignoring civilians so naturally we may see to give them mercy if they did surrender.
shareWell the aliens in Battleship ignored civilians and anything that wasn't a threat. They would be captured alive because they'd have technology and potentially knowledge that we want.

I never saw that movie nor do I plan on ever, it just looks terrible.
shareI find it a fun film, I can overlook the faults in it.

Normally I jump at any chance to see an alien invasion movie but something based off a kids game just looks retarded.
shareNot really, it depends what idea you pursue. The idea of the board game is a very simplified tactical grid and using your wits to deduce where the enemy is. Using that as a jumping off point isn't a bad one. It's no more childish than grown men running around firing paintballs. They could easily have gone for a more tense and even claustrophobic feel to the film, something with a similar feel to say Crimson Tide or Hunt for the Red October in terms of atmosphere.

True but it would be interesting to see the thought process of aliens completely ignoring civiliansYou just described Battleship (2012)
I haven't seen the movie but isn't there a scene when they are tearing their way though a city?
sharethe predator from the 'predator' movie does not kill a human if he/she is unarmed!
shareThe "Ender's Game" novel deals with this in a roundabout fashion - not sure if the film did.

...err... I don't think that is true.
Any signatory to the Geneva Convention is (I believe) bound by that, regardless of whether the nation they are fighting is a signatory or not.
SpiltPersonality
Was just going to say that but scrolled down and saw your post.
shareTrue, if you sign it you are bound by it no matter who you are fighting.
But the helicopter was not a Medivac helicopter, at best it was a Casivac (a regular helicopter sent in to get a large number of wounded off the battlefield.
Unless some special provision is made for aliens (I don't know, there might be. They're not legally people after all), signatories to the Geneva Convention are still bound by it even when fighting non-signatories.
Yeah, I remember the big intergalactic stink when they refused to sing it.
sharethose bastards!
Libera te tu temet ex inferis.
pro ego sum diabolus, pro ego sum nex.
It wasn't marked with a red cross so they wouldn't have broken the Geneva Convention by shooting it down.
