I think we were symbolically shown that by Rebecca unearthing the buried dinosaur she was bringing it 'back to life' as she had done with Tommy.
I agree with that, it was symbolic. It didn't bother me too much because it was just an electronic pet, and if it was so "advanced" or whatever it
seems like it should have been more complex. It looks just like "interactive pets" you could get back in the 90s like Furbys. If it was supposed to be "futuristic," it wasn't, very much. But anyway, the scene made me feel uneasy. I think it was more over the fact that the boys were "mean" & buried it, and Tommy was beginning to disconnect from his mom & want to be more independent.
