Not Sedated for the C-Section?!

In the scene where Rebecca is about to undergo surgery to deliver Tommy 2, she is fully conscious and all we see them do before the scalpel is used is put what appears to be topical/local anesthesia. I know that patients can (sometimes) opt out of general anesthesia and go with a level of sedation that keeps them calm instead, but you would think that with something as invasive as a Caesarean they would knock her out completely.

I am so confused...

All of the c-sections I've seen or heard about (including friends) only used topical and local anesthesia. I think it's too dangerous to put them under.

Also, it is supposed to be the future.

I can't understand your crazy moon language.

Routine cesareans are done under spinal anesthesia here.
