In a sense, everyone can. Gary is someone who is caught in his memories. He is trying real hard throughout the movie to capture that feeling again. In today's world, a lot of people are caught up in their nostalgia and their memories. Everyone wants to relive a memory where they were happy and the troubles of the world disappeared.
