Anti-American
BOYCOTT!!!
shareI won't tell anyone to boycott this movie but I also won't be spending a wooden nickle to ever see it.
Having the American flag planted on the Moon is history. If they aren't going to tell the entire story, then why bother telling it at all? And YES, it is a very big deal.
You see the flag on the moon in the film. In fact, it cuts to a wide shot of the lunar module with the flag next to it not just once but twice.
I wouldn't judge the film until you've seen it. Neil's sons have endorsed the film for a reason, and it's not because they're secretly anti-American agents working for the Kremlin.
LOL, I'm sure Neil's sons aren't Kremlin based agents but since our media sees Russians behind everything, you never know. :D
shareI know some people are all up in arms, but I don't give a rat's ass about the lack of a flag.
Yes, the absence of a flag is historically inaccurate, but all historical films are inaccurate to some degree. One minute of inaccuracy in a long film doesn't matter to me.
I am only saying this to let the people who are all in a tizzy about this know that not everyone agrees with you.
Hilarious. Can't wait for The Life and Times of Michael Jordan, starring Peter Dinklage. LOL. Like that will every happen. Makes no sense right. LOL. Neither does this backbirth shitbreath of an excuse for a movie.
shareProbably the best policy to first actually see the film before deciding to be so critical.
shareThe movie finished in 3rd this week end so I guess the box office has spoken.
shareAre you assuming that the flag controversy is the sole cause of the weak box office?
I mean, it could be because it's been a few decades since NASA was cool, or Gosling's fans only like him in romances.
No I'm guessing its mostly because melinials grew up with the moon landng already being old news that they just don't feel the nastalgia by it. But also the Directory made it clear he wanted to play down the endeavor aspect of the moon landing which can't possibly help its box office domesticly.
The thing is most americans today weren't around for the moon landing and from their perspective believe that we've been going to the moon since at least ancient times from their personal experience(Or rather lack of it)kinda how we feel we've always had cars and TVs. They probably can't imagine a time when people looked at the moon in the 1950s and actually contimplated It was even possible to ever walk on the moon. They just don't see the moon as a big deal cause they can't imagine we've never been there.
Heck yeah, absolutely this!
That's what had me transfixed by this movie...being taken back to a time where this was all new...when landing on the moon wasn't something we'd all grown up knowing had happened a lifetime ago.
You're exactly right, its just not a big deal to people...and it wasn't to me until I watched this movie. It really did a great job with the story IMO, hopefully more people will find that out after giving it a chance.
Whats anti american about a film about NASA and the voyage to the moon thats full of american iconography?
Mostly the fact that the director wants to depict it as world endevor of going to the moon Despite the fact that the we all remember the moon race was a specifically american endeavor to beat the russians to the moon due to the cold war. We would not have gone to the expense of the moon if our national prestige wasn't on the line. Hence why we haven't been to the moon sense and mars baring some accidental break through is at least a few generations away or won't happen unless we are racing china.
In terms of us interested in the historical aspects of the film we don't seem as interested as the Directory has already said in interviews he wants to de deemphasize the american aspects of going to the moon. Those of us interested in the historical aspects of the film know the moon landing was to beat the russians and are less interested in watching this historical revisionist depiction of it.
The flag controversy this film has picked up is a big nothing burger. There are multiple images of the US flag, including the flag planted on the moon next to the capsule. It seems that there are just a lot of people that want to get in a twist because the act of planting the flag is not shown.
shareRighties are just as bad as lefties in terms of getting their panties in a bunch over the most ridiculous shit - and this proves it.
shareConservative Americans are a laughing stock to the rest of the world.
shareAs if conservatives give a shit about what the rest of the world thinks of us. Europe is being over run with radical immigrants and is losing it's culture. Conservatives built this country into the envy of the world. Liberals are trying to give it all away.
America has ALWAYS been envied to the point of derision. For instance, I HATED my trip to France back in the 80s when I spent two months there for my company. I met a few very nice people but most of us felt the tension. And it wasn't just because I'm black: everyone in our division said the same thing.
My boss told me that France has never forgiven us for saving their asses twice in less than 40 years.
Liberals want America to be like Europe. I just wish they'd stop trying to drag us down to Europe's level and just move there instead.
Conservative Americans are a laughing stock to the rest of the world.
