career changing?

the director has compared Jessica's performance in this film to John Travolta's in Pulp Fiction.... in the sense that nobody thought he would pull it off but he surprised and proved everybody wrong...

personally i can't see it happening but i really like alba and I hope soooo much that she delivers in this film
she gets so much unnecessary stick and I feel sorry for her

She is true talent.

Pulp fiction, eh? That's a nice thing for him to say. That would be cool, I'd like to see Jessica in more dramatic and personal roles. If she's at all interested in doing more meaningful or artistic films, I think she should start doing more indie films. There's nothing in Hollywood for actors with any modicum of talent.

She brings it on herself. She intentionally does any movie that throws a sizable check at her, and then complains that she isn't considered in the same class as other young actresses. She needs to start choosing roles from reasons other than dollar signs!

Unfortunately, this could be the case. But, we may be wrong.

Nothing can change the fact she is a solidly average actress, all her previous performances say this. The only difference, is that she has the looks and the charisma that makes you like her anyway. Considering she is a dork in real life, this movie may take advantage of that, pulling out of her a performance as great as in 'Honey'.

Also John Travolta is a good actor, people just forgot how cool he could be, remember this guy was Danny from grease.

In Dark Angel, Jessica was a significantly better than average actress. I thought she was absolutely spectacular.

she was nominated for a Best Actress Golden Globe for that role too. haters tend to forget that.

2. Olga Kurylenko
3. Megan Fox

She was above average. And thats beside the point. Where are her acting skills now eh?, did she magically lose them?

I could only hope and dream, that she would revert to her Dark Angel days, but alas thats not how the world works. If she had it, she would show it, she doesn't. And its a shame.

reply

Call me naive, but I also think the director has a big impact on the acting skills of actors. Take Natalie Portman for example. Most agree she's a good actress but in the Star Wars movies she was so wooden it was almost painful to watch. Christian Bale was fantastic in the Machinist and American Psycho (not to mention his debut as a child) but in Terminator Salvation his performance was nothing to write home about.

I think James Cameron knew how to get the best out of Jessica and the directors in the big dollar movies are usually not known for that particular talent.

So who knows, maybe this one can pull a good performance out of her. I hope so. She was too enjoyable in Dark Angel to just wither away like the forgettable starlet she's become.

As someone else noted...Jessica Alba can act. She was amazing in Dark Angel...it just got lost somewhere with all the commercial crap/whitewashing hollywood *beep* she does.
