Ann and disrespect

As somebody who works with kids of the age depicted in the film, I found this decidedly frustrating to watch. Why was that Ann kid not punished for the way she behaved in class, specifically regarding how she treats Albas character? If a kid spoke to me or another teacher like that you can rest assured they'd be in a whole heap of trouble. She'd spend her life parked outside the principals office, and parents would be called in.

A teachers presence in the classroom is built upon respect, and these kids (Lisa excepted, apparently) have zero respect for Albas character. She is a terrible teacher, and in reality the kids would run wild... oh, and she would INSTANTLY lose her job for the whole axe scenario.

Sorry, I just couldn't see it in anything but a teachers eyes...

Alba's character (Ms. Grey) was naturally really nice. She only disciplined the kids if she had to or if it was the ABSOLUTELY right thing to do. She was too nice to punish everyone for every little thing. She was the NEW teacher... thus she was seen as a substitude teacher in the eyes of the kids. Substitute teachers get treated REALLY poorly.

As for the kids would run wild in real life, well... they DID run wild in the movie as well. Possibly until the very end of the movie when Ms Grey finally couldn't take it anymore and finally decided to try to do something about the kids.

As far as the Axe scene.. did u finish watching the whole movie? SPOILER ALERT!!!

[spoiler] she DID lose her job as soon as the school district found out she had an axe in the class room. She had to get a lawyer to cut a deal with the school district where she agreed to drop charges on the school for the attack and agreed to get her teacher's degree, so she could continue working as a teacher. That became her dream job.

While I wanted one of the kids to knock Ann on her butt, I also felt a little offended for her. She was clearly acting out because of her parents' divorce but no one had any sympathy for her. Lisa acted out because her mother was dying and she got all of the sympathy. Of course, death of a parent is way worse than divorce, but maybe if someone showed Ann any sort of empathy, perhaps she wouldn't have been such a little monster.

Truth be told, I had to see you one more time, even if it was from a distance.
