I don't know...my husband doesn't think she's very attractive. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. And beauty alone is not a very good basis for friendship.

Completely agree with all of that. I'm not saying your husband is pulling your leg, but 99% of heterosexual men find her attractive, probably 80% find her incredibly attractive. She's one of the prettiest girls on the planet. So although beauty is in the eye of the beholder, LOTS of eyes find her beautiful. The vast majority.
And beauty is not a very good basis for a significant relationship, but it definitely attracts all kinds of people, all the time. She'd be beating them off with a stick, or at least very frequently weirding them out with her weirdness. People like Alba don't just disappear into the crowd.

There are a ton of guys who would put up with a LOT of girl's crap to be with a girl if she was hot enough.
Even if there was no sex involved there are still a lot of guys would put up with a lot of girl's crap to just be around her in public for people to see to look cooler and "score more points with other girls."

The problem with that is you seem to think it's only up to the guys if she's a loner or not. She didn't seem to want any attention. Whether the 99% of heterosexual men put up with her personality is irrelevant. She didn't want to put up with them.
