Playtone Productions, founded by Tom Hanks, produced Charlie Wilson's War, Cast Away, and That Thing You Do!
Flower Films, founded by Drew Barrymore, produced He's Just Not That Into You, Whip It!, Music and Lyrics, Fever Pitch, and quite a few other films starring Barrymore.
When an actor/producer has a chance to get the rights to a story in which they'd like to star, why wouldn't they go for it?
