Hunnam Replaces Cumberbatch

Due to scheduling issues with Dr. Strange, Cumberbatch had to back out of TLCZ and has been replaced by Charlie Hunnam. Not a bad move. As a big Cumberbatch fan, I hate to see him leave any project that is character driven. But I'm a big fan of Hunnam as well and I think he could use a project like this. I'm looking forward to it.

Only time will tell if Joaquin Phoenix somehow magically finds a role in this one.

Those are brave men. Lets go kill them.

Can't say I'm a huge fan of Hunnam, and while I believe Cumberbatch is cast in way too much these days I'd rather have him.

reply

That a problem? He's a fantastic actor. He is simply not in enough films.

reply

He will be. Since Sons of Anarchy is over, he's signing up projects left and right. We'll see a lot of Charlie Hunnam on big screen soon.

I adore Charlie Hunnam and was sad he turned down 50SG. He is a wonderfully sexy actor!

Jumping to conclusions,eh Jonas????

Late reply here, but one of my irks is that the person Hunnam is playing was in his late 50s at the time of his disappearance. Hunnam is 34. I guess it'll work if they focus more on Fawcett's earlier adventures.

reply

From what I understand, the main focus of the film will be the earlier expeditions when Fawcett was younger. I think the last expedition will only be a small part of the film. They can make Hunnam look 52 in the jungle with no problem.

I see that the Hollywood Reporter wrongly suggested that Dr. Strange has something to do with this, but they're wrong. That isn't filming until the end the year, and he won't be free to film anything until November anyway, because he's contracted to do Hamlet in London from July to Nov.

Hamlet is why he dropped out of this. That, combined with the fact that his fiancee is pregnant and the baby will arrive sometime during his Hamlet run. He wants to be in London for that, not deep in the jungles of S. America.

Hunnam will be coming off of Crimson Peak and Knights of the Roundtable: King Arthur with Guy Ritchie when TLCoZ opens, which is fantastic momentum. This is good casting news and coming from the production company that made Moneyball, 12 Years a Slave and World War Z, it has the potential to be both a popular and quality film.

Strange replacement. I think they are both great actors but besides being born in the same country they have nothing incommon.

No idea who Hunnam is, but Cumberbatch is spreading himself thin. Good actor, but he's everywhere it seems. (He's not, but he's so dominant when he is, that it feels like he's everywhere.)

So I'm good with having him not in this movie.

I can't stress how much this bothered me. With all due respect to Charlie Hunnam for his performance in Sons of Anarchy... he's been terrible in everything else. Even laughable.

I like the guy, but don't find him to be much of an actor. Hopefully he delivers a game-changer on this one... Percy Fawcett was quite the character.

Seconded.
Very purdy face but truly awful actor. Can't even walk naturally.
But hey, I think the same about Jennifer Lawrence ever since Winter's Bone.

I remember The Lost City of Z had Brad Pitt attached as lead. Good times.
They should cast Redmond O'Hanlon, though.

From the trailer it looks like Hunnam isn't going to knock this one out of the park.
