Favorite Minor Character? Wash Gets My Vote
Moneyball is one of those movies that I'll always stop to watch when it's on TV. The leads are all excellent, but I've really started to appreciate the richness of the minor character performances (i.e. Grady's final vicious conversation with Billy, the batting cage standoff between David and Billy). But my favorite minor character is Ron Washington (Brent Jennings). He always has this sort of wry smile that seems to ask "Is this for real?" And this scene at Scott Hatteberg's house always makes me laugh.
Hatteberg: But the thing is...
Billy: You don't know how to play first base. It's not that hard, Scott. Tell him Wash.
Wash: It's incredibly hard.
Billy: Hey, anything worth doing is. And we're going to teach you.
Hatteberg: You want me to take Giambi's spot at first base? What about the fans?
Wash: Yeah, maybe I could teach one of them.
