I hate Casey Affleck

Heads up this is going to be a random post.

Hate is maybe a bit strong but he pisses me off. Not only can he not act he's really annoying to watch. I caught a few minutes of this movie on TV the other night and I just had enough. How does he keep getting acting jobs? He plays the same character each movie. Comes across as mildly retarded. In a stronger actor the silent moody stares might be effective but with him it's just irritating. Hating on him got me thinking about his bro. he can't act either. In Argo he had the same facial expression the entire movie. And how did he get best director golden globe? there was good performances from cast and the story was good but the story was based on truth and are we to believe that the cast performed so well because of his direction?

This actually made me think more about how best director is chosen. It's obvious for best actor/actress because you just ask who gave the best performance but i realise now it's trickier with director. you have seperate categories for editing, score and cinematography and many others which make the movie look and sound good so where exactly does the director come in? How do you know the film worked because of good direction rather than good actors, screenwriters,cinematographers etc? Obviously it's a team effort otherwise why hire all the other people but I just mean how exactly do you pick out the influence of the director when looking at a movie? This is a genuine question that I hope some film student or something can answer because it just occurred to me that it wasn't so straightforward.

I know my hating Casey affleck and wondering about how a director earns an award are not connected but it's where my stream of consciousness went and i didn't want to create 2 different posts :)
