You just described a large part of the U.S. There are a lot of people carrying guns, legally or otherwise, and outside the major cities LEOs are often 30 minutes or more away.

But most, if not ALL of them, are ADULTS. They still have to follow the law, they're not an exception, but children should certainly NEVER carry one.

If a law enforcement officer had been made aware of it, I’m sure she would have. One typically has to be caught doing something illegal in order to be arrested for it.
