At the end Laine destroys the spirit and the Ouija board in a furnace, yet when she gets back home, the planchette magically materialized on her night table. Then she picks it up and looks thru it and the movie ends without knowing if she dies or not....How could the spirits still be following her after she destroyed the board? Is she gonna be haunted forever or did she forget to do something in the process?
shareWell burning the Board could've just made the spirit stronger. Like in "The Ring 2" when the original tape is burned. In any event it's not like the Spirit would be gone. They had played with the Board for too long to the point the "gateway" couldn't just be closed.

Well in my opinion, they burned the Ouija board and Doris' body which means that Laine ended her connection with Doris. However, before they threw the board into the fire, Doris screamed and let out all of those dark spirits that were trapped inside of her. I believe those spirits are the ones who are now going to haunt Laine.
shareOoh. Good point. I'm not sure we'll get a sequel set in the modern time due to the movie's poor fan reception. (Despite doing great $ wise) Kind of a shame since I liked it for being a slow burn instead of a cookie cutter gory slasher.

Personally, I think that the planchette was the only thing that rematerialized considering that's the ONLY thing from that Laine (and we as the audience) saw. Since the purpose of the planchette without the board is to be able to see otherwise-invisible spirits, I think it's a safe guess that it's not a result of the dark spirits haunting Laine but is instead the spirit of Debbie leaving Laine something just in case harmful spirits start haunting her again. After all, not being able to see harmful spirits at all is much more dangerous than being able to see them.

I think it's different. She had to destroy the connection. The body was burned, and she threw the board in the fire. But she didn't thrown the planchette in the fire, which in my view is also part of the board. Therefor the connection was not completely destroyed. And therefor the planchette reappeared at the end.
