I don't know what to think of this installment
I watched it recently, within the last couple of weeks. I couldn't help but think that I did not need an entire movie on Furiosa's backstory, as even though she ended up being the main character of Fury Road, her character was better as it is in the universe of just that movie.
It can be that way for many movies, characters with mysterious backgrounds, with questions for the viewers to use their imagination. Questions like, How did this guy get that scar on his face, why is he missing an eyeball, and in Furiosa's case, how did she come to have a mechanical arm? I didn't actually need an entire feature film to explain everything and hold my hand about Furiosa, I mean, I get it, she had a tough life before the movie Fury Road happens, and she comes from 'the Green Place' in her youth.
So, the very idea of Furiosa The Film bugged me from the start. It's an interesting character, but I didn't feel it was a story that needed told again. We all got the gist from Fury Road didn't we?
Then we have the final product, the film itself. It's gorgeous to watch, it's George Miller putting on a masterclass of action movie making, once again. I hope that future directors take lessons, just on how to do road chases. It's basically another Fury Road movie that does little to expand the Mad Max universe. It's going to be a fun romp once in awhile, especially in 4K UHD, just as another action movie, an amazing one, but the story I could not care less about it.
