It Was Flawed but Entertaining
Quirky movie but easy to watch. I like a movie where the key characters are three dimensional; not 100% good or bad. With many contemporary movies, having the broader “message” often undermines development of rounded characters. I also like a movie where completely divergent characters come to find accord which is important in a story with a major subplot about disconnected America. I agree with the criticism of the ending as too invented and unnatural but, at least this movie took a big shot at being different. I thought Mayer was really good as the New York friend. I thought Kutcher was flat. He was trying to play his role like some etherial philosopher but he came across like he was numb.
