Firing via video conference
This practice would never fly. It's been my experience that when people are fired today, they are walked out/escorted from their office and the premises. I've seen this happen a couple different companies. And it doesn't matter how high up you are. At my current job, a facility with about 350 people, the HR manager got let go and even she was walked out by someone from corporate. You don't give anyone a chance to sabotage their work environment or steal any files that could be valuable to another company, especially when they're wound up over being let go.
I just can't see firing someone over video and then letting them pack up and leave unattended. For example, what if the HR manager at my place had decided to make a file with everyone's salary and send it out to all personnel on her way out the door? No offense, but you can't risk it with anyone.
