Why do some lead others on?

A scenario some what simular to George Clooneys character happened to me.

I am 32 year old, have a steady job and have never been married, because I don't want to be tied down by marriage or a steady relationship.

6 months ago at a political foundraiser I meet this 32 year old woman. She seemed sweet, smart and very intelligent and we ended up having sex in my hotelroom. We then continued to meet regularly the months after at foundraisers, political meetings etc. Every time she said come to my city and look me up, then I will show you around. A couple of days ago I came to the conclusion that she was the one and I went to see her in her city and take her up on her offer. I rang the intercom at her apartment but a male voice who introduced himself as her husband answered. I didn't continue the conversation and got into a taxi to the trainstation and boarded the train and went home. I blocked her on my phone and on Facebook and came to the conclusion, that if something seems to good to be true then it often is.

But why do some people lead others on?

Sorry but your story sounds fictional. How would the guy answer the intercom and introduce himself as her husband? That just doesn't sound right. It's not a normal greeting.

The Op's post is just a summary of the plot of this movie.

This person is probably unemployed and has never had sex.

LOL

Its the most creative way of spoiling a movie I've seen. Bravo, Euroman_33.

Do I have to give it to you?

reply

LOL!
Well, it does look unusual for a guy to introduce himself to a stranger by saying he's someone's husband. But maybe it went like this (over the intercom):

-Hi, may I speak to Mary?
-Who is this?
-This is Euroman, a friend of her.
-Well, I'm Joe, Mary's husband.
-...

Dude maybe her brother was messing with you and you lost your soulmate due to a joke.

He's already committed suicide so you are responding to nobody at this point.

euroman seven years ago, if your account actually happened that way, you did the smartest thing possible. You immediately and totally cut all ties to this shallow, deceitful, and potentially sociopathic woman. It must have hurt like hell at the time, but by now you realize that you were fortunate not to have become even more entangled with her.
