Ryan's neighbor

In one of the few scenes showing Ryan at home in his apartment, his neighbor drops by and gives him the cardboard cutout picture that she signed for while he was out of town.

Just to be clear: he used to bang her, right?

She's the earliest chance we're shown for Ryan to have a less lonely life. He doesn't realize it until a few weeks after she's moved on. She represents how good he's been at keeping people at arm's length.

Yes, and also that she has become a lost opportunity, in effect. Point being Life has been moving along, and options not exercised are lost, while Ryan has been doing his up in the air thing.
