It gets pretty political later. It's not really woke but the writers' attitude is far from objective. There's a lot of misconceptions.
No. It's woke as shit. Yeah, Homelander doesn't want a Muslim supe on the team. Homelander is a Nazi! Or the next best thing. So of course he's a xenophobic piece of shit. Real Nazis are, of course, actual xenophobic pieces of shit, but of course this one has to be portrayed as America's hero. I could accept that, that he's a villain masquerading as a hero, except for... Well, we'll get to that below.
While he publicly repudiates Stormfront, he privately continues to visit, encourage, and comfort her (among other more selfish and perverted things), and he breaks down and murders an innocent when she commits suicide.
Then, when he comes out with an overtly unhinged, overtly self-aggrandizing, overtly crazed, power-seeking rant, then the very next scene, Ashley, the corporate shill who works for Vought, comes to him to inform him that his poll numbers are soaring with... White males of course. A crazed, murderous, power mad, crypto-Nazi villain of course garners an ardent, devoted following among white males. Of course. The only identity group today that it is A okay to be openly, loudly, disgustlngly bigoted against.
As I said, I could accept a Homelander, revered as a hero, but who is revealed as a villain at heart, when he slips up and shows who he really is. But this is a Homeland who shows what a villain he really is, and is embraced by white males, for his openly expressed villainy.
This show is woke as fuck. And I'm out. Deuces. Fuck you Amazon.

It certainly isn’t completely woke free but it does kinda poke fun at everything. However, I’m gonna have to completely disagree with you on Homelander being a Nazi/white supremacist. He absolutely does not think whites are superior, he just thinks he as an individual is superior, to everyone. He doesn’t even believe supes are superior, just him. His relationship with Stormfront and Elizabeth Shue’s character just feed into that narcissism. I even recall him being uncomfortable when Stormfront was talking about some of her master race shit in front of his son. He is a world class psychopath, but he treats all types of people with equal disregard.
shareI partly agree with you. He's not shown to be terribly hostile to non-"Aryan" types. And when Stormfront tells him he is meant to lead an army of Aryan Übermenschen he rolls his eyes in exasperation and discounts the idea. He's more a narcissist than racist. But...
I would argue the effect is no different, in terms of wokeness. Homelander rejects the idea of a Muslim superhero. The previous season he rejected (and crippled) a blind superhero. He is consistently shown to be murderous, sadistically cruel, and and utterly devoid of genuine decency of character. Stormfront is a Nazi -- an ardent, ideological, unrepentant Nazi -- and he still shows no inclination whatsoever to judge her negatively on account of her being an zealous devotee of one of the most odious ideologies in all of human history. As I said, when she kills herself, he even lashes out and murders an innocent as a result.
When a character like this is rejecting disabled, or Muslim supers, it's still checking those woke boxes. He's the villain, so of course he's an Islamophobe, and of course he's "ableist." And of course he becomes an idol to the wokesters' favorite bugbear and target: the "angry white male."
I see what you’re saying and about the whole hwite male stereotype. But I still stand by the fact that SF being a nazi had nothing to do with why she appealed to Homelander. It was her combination of domineering mother figure and her putting him up on a godlike pedestal that he enjoyed. He wasn’t upset that she died, he was mad that she would no longer be there to literally stroke him/his ego.
But in the same few episodes they had A-train’s family call him out on his ridiculous “getting back to his roots” gimmick. As well as Annie’s whole “no one even bats an eye when a man climbs the ladder” justification for becoming co-captain, completely blowing up in her face when she realizes she was never gonna be able to outplay Homelander. And not to mention Victoria Newman being based on AOC actually being the evil head popper. I feel like the script will tell us things that go along with the current woke narrative. But then through the actions of the character it shows us the ugly truth about how people really are and identity politics doesn’t shield any group from the reality of human nature.

shareIt's pretty woke, but at more tolerable levels, at least for me. Some stuff still slips through, including things other posters on here have mentioned. But they're relatively minor to me and I can still enjoy the show overall. Others here have pointed out that it also occasionally makes fun of wokeness too, so there's that.
I wouldn't be surprised if they triple down on the wokeness eventually, but until then I don't mind too much. I'd rather they're able to finish the series with minimal wokeness than the show getting cancelled, but then again I can just read the comics if I wanna see how it turns out.
