Didn't make a huge splash for the American economy. They did not build the country. They were irrelevant to America's economic success.

shareThey performed a lot of the agricultural labor on large-scale farms in the southern states. Not exactly country-building, but important to the economy of the South.
shareLast time I checked, the first European settlers to come to America didn't bring any slaves with them. They worked with their own hands or with help from other white settlers that came with them, and they didn't rely on any stupid govt. program to give them handouts for an ill-gotten life of ease at the expense of others' hard work. Many more settlers who came after them did not use slaves either, because 99% of them couldn't afford slaves.
