I know that they never do that for mainstream films but it would have added way more authenticity
She came off as a generic 2022 American even in her mannerisms and it didn't feel that it was supposed to be set 200 years ago, could just as easily been a post apocalyptic group of survivors
Yeah, the mix of modern American English and native American speech was but one of the ridiculous things about this movie. It should've been all or nothing. I'll go along with 100% Americanized English as a movie trope. No problem. I would also go along with 100% native American speech with subtitles. But to mix the two together is just inane, like most of the rest of the movie is.
They probably should've just met in the middle and spoke English with a native American accent.
I agree that the film's dialogue should have been in Comanche and subtitled in English. Unfortunately, American audiences don't like reading subtitles, so having the dialogue spoken in English was most likely a business decision.
Its a hard decision because many do not like subtitles, particularly if its all the dialogue. Then you have the people that dislike Dubs, between those two groups you would limit the audience somewhat. I would watch it but my wife would not. I have a hard time getting her to watch old Italian made films even if most the dialogue was spoken in English during filming you can tell its been dubbed so it distracts her during the movie.
Come to think of it, a lot of the hunting scenes were actually depicted that way, and Apocalyptico was very much like that throughout most of the film.
I think it could have worked if the focus was on the hunting party, and it was an experienced hunter (or maybe Naru and Taabe's father) hunting with them. And the film focused on the different ways they hunted different animals, utilized the environment to their advantage, and how the Predator would pick them off while studying them, and their adaptation to his tactics.
Minimal or no dialogue and a focus on tension building and community hunting would have been a fascinating film to watch.
Yeah excatly, you could of then completely removed the whole i'm as good as the boy's crap as well, and just show her progression instead of telling us while the more experienced ones get picked off.
Just my guess but i can imagine that being in the initial concepts and the studio's weren't having it.
