Every show has to have a gay character. Or a black best friend, etc. You can't force comedy that's not how it works. The main character is a beta male soy boy, and the only time he has been funny are the few physical comedy bits he did very well. Having the lead in a sit com be the straight man is a recipe for disaster. There is no sympathy for this guy at all. He is completely uninteresting. There is zero back story on why we should like him.
The girl is quirky and fun and different, but the show does not work for her, she needs a whole new show. The dialysis group is the most interesting part of the show.
The opening to the show is horrific and I can't watch it.

Yeah ... yeah, comedy is pushed all the time.

I mean, you can't tie people's hands and force them to be PC.
Comedy is not funny that way.
Comedy comes from original ideas, and they aren't always PC.
When you take that away, it's not funny anymore.
