Not seen it yet- looks like Heavenly Creatures

I haven't seen the film yet but am looking forward to it. The trailer seemed to show it as a mix between Atonement, The Hole and Heavenly Creatures. Most interested in it's similarity to the latter since it is my favourite film. Juno Temple seemed to be a very Melanie Lynksey/Pauline type character, along with the period setting, 'unhealthy' female relationships and dark tone.

Looking forward to seeing it- was wondering whether anyone else found this parallel!

(I suppose it would be naive to say no spoilers, but, if you can help it, no spoilers other than info put across in the trailer!)

Lesbianism is almost a cliche in such films.

And it's got nothing to do with gay rights. More the fact that a lot of men get off on it.

Do you really think that men are going to sit through a long period piece in French in order to be titillated by depictions of prep school girls' lesbian dalliances? That might have been the case 20 years ago, but nowadays the Internet offers instance and limitless access to hard core pr0n at any time of the day or night.

The vast majority of straight men who will see this film will fall into two camps; cineastes and hostages of girlfriends or wives.

Yes, yes, and yes. Especially with the fast forward button.

Call me cynical, but I agree with Mark. Man on man is rare in film, but girl on girl action seems to appear in about 3/10 films these days. I wonder why.

It obviously didn't work for Cracks though, since it didn't do well commercially.

Plus single sex school = rampant homosexuality is a big big cliche.

Not only that, but women generally also don't enjoy seeing man on man scenes. For that reason as well, it's no mystery why we see more girl on girl than guy on guy. The only way you'd have fewer girl on girl scenes is if we went back to the sensibilities of 1950 where homosexuality wouldn't be shown period.

You aRE way off on that guess! Nothing close to Heavenly Creatures. This is way more interesting and waaaaay more intense

nope, no way. Heavenly Creatures is a masterpiece compared to this predictable piece of rubbish. Seriously, EVERY cliche in the book. I can't believe Killer Films had a bar of it.

Heavenly Creatures, the old new zealand film from peter jackson?? I don't know,i never seen it as well (haha..) but it seems like having some undertones in it, specifically to the catholic schoolgirls and (probably) the murder crime. But well, we'll see...

I found myself making the same parallels between Heavenly Creatures and Cracks as well. Heavenly Creatures is one of my favorite movies and tone, setting, instense emotion and all consuming teenage girl rage are all depicted in both movies.

Loved this one as well and will be checking out the book to get the backstory on what the deal with the Eva Green character was, seems like she was a bit cracked to begin with.

Yes, it's very much like heavenly Creatures (also one of my very favorite films) - the unbridled passions of schoolgirls degenerating into deadly romantic obsessions. I thought it was brilliant.
