Brilliant take on ... (SPOILERS - Don't read until you watch)
... the inspirational teacher trope, in which a free-spirited bohemian inspires privileged students to break out of the conformity and authoritarianism of their posh private school milieu. (I'm looking at you, Dead Poets Society.) Here we have Miss G, a fraudulent bohemian spouting cliched nonconformist aphorisms who is revealed to be needy, predatory, psychopathic, and ultimately pathetic. The character who we at first think is the movie's villainous queen bee - and in fact is for much of the film - turns out to be more sympathetic and redeemable.
Cracks is a drama that is so searing that it's tough to watch in the last act and upends conventional tropes. With gorgeous cinematography too. 8/10.
