Brilliant take on ... (SPOILERS - Don't read until you watch)

... the inspirational teacher trope, in which a free-spirited bohemian inspires privileged students to break out of the conformity and authoritarianism of their posh private school milieu. (I'm looking at you, Dead Poets Society.) Here we have Miss G, a fraudulent bohemian spouting cliched nonconformist aphorisms who is revealed to be needy, predatory, psychopathic, and ultimately pathetic. The character who we at first think is the movie's villainous queen bee - and in fact is for much of the film - turns out to be more sympathetic and redeemable.

Cracks is a drama that is so searing that it's tough to watch in the last act and upends conventional tropes. With gorgeous cinematography too. 8/10.

I'm in love with this picture. It awakened something in me. It makes me feel like I was 17 again, when my emotions were much sharper. It reminded me why I fell in love with cinema in the first place.

I'm a sucker for private school, boarding school films. Their worlds are so enclosed and we can peek inside.. the teachers are their nurtures whom they grow to trust and love above all.. its fascinating.
