Was Miss Gs character supposed to be that beautiful?

I never read the book.

The reason I ask is because Eva Greens looks just seemed out of place with the characters.

I’m aware of the fact that a very attractive person can be just as screwed up as anyone else however considering the time period you would have thought she would have been married off years ago to someone from a so called respectable class and living the adventures she dreamed of. Im assuming she was supposed to be in her late 20s to early 30s which would have made this close to being considered a spinster in the early 1930s

If you remember, she had something scandalous that she was involved in and it probably affected her a great deal. So much so, that she never wanted to be out in public again for fear of anyone remembering it. Nothing to do with her looks at all.

After WWI there was also a great many women who did not marry because of the lack of men, so many being killed in it. This time period 1934 was only 14 years later so no available men I am guessing could also be the resason.

Well, it might be hard to find yourself a husband, when your scared of even walking through your local village. Oh really, what scandal did Ms. G have in her youth? Do they mention that in the movie?

I haven't read the book so I don't know if it explains it in there but I got the impression that she might've suffered some trauma as a young girl and that caused her to be socially awkward and fearful outside of the school grounds. Maybe she was raped? That might be why she started trembling in the store when the two young men stood behind her, jeering. Maybe that's why she stayed at the all-women's school for so long, because she felt so uncomfortable "out in the real world."

The real-life actress Vivien Leigh was gorgeous and she suffered from bipolar disorder.

There are good-looking people who are mentally ill or troubled. It's sort of shallow to think otherwise.

Her character was deemed as glamourous. Yes she was meant to be that attractive, the girls were fascinated by it. She was the youthful, fun, attractive and spirtful diving teacher ... Every other teacher was older, dull and old fashioned in comparison.

But Vivien Leigh was a movie star, most ordinary people back then weren't that good looking (the clothes and hairstyles don't look very flattering now)

If you look at old photographs, people sort of had different faces back then, someone who looked like Eva Green would be preternaturally beautiful by 1930s England standards (though of course of she's pretty beautiful by today's standards) But then Eva Green isn't English at all, she's a mix of French, Swedish and Jewish ancestry.

Maybe she was shy and probably not into men that much.

She was mentally ill and the history that she constructed for the other students was a complete fiction. I doubt there was a scandalous past. She probably made that up to make herself seem more interesting and to justify being an unmarried woman at her age.

We know that her "adventures" were stories form a book that she was passing off as her own. Most probably she had not been outside the school community since she was a student herself. At the school she was in complete control with a group of devoted acolytes who ate up all of her lies. They were probably so easy to sell because she was so beautiful. Until Fiamma came and started to expose her.

She developed an obsession with Fiamma, who was exactly the sort of character she was painting herself to be. Fiamma didn't buy it and when Ms. G molested her she crossed the line. She unraveled completely at the end when Fiamma wouldn't keep the secret and then again when Di saw what she did with the inhaler. She knew she would be kicked out of the school, the only place wher she had control. Once she was forced to live in the village she started to unravel immediately.
