It's a BOMB! The reason: American audiences resent --
-- ANYBODY remaking classics by artists such as Fritz Lang!

Disagree. For one thing, the original is hardly a "classic". Unless you're one of the people who think "classic" means "old" or black & white.
It is rarely, if ever, shown on TCM, which certainly does not limit itself to "classics". It's not available, as far as I know, on DVD. That almost certainly means the people that own it, RKO, don't think it would draw that much interest. And Fritz Lang himself left the US industry after being forced to change his ending.
So much for it being the untouchable masterpiece of an artist. Hell, he'd probably be in favor of the new one.
On the other hand, I don't think the vast majority of today's movie-going public (not knowledgeable fans on sites like this, the average person looking for a movie) could tell you:
1) Much of anything about Fritz Lang;
2) Much about either "Metropolis" or "M", let alone his other pictures:
3) Anything about the original "Beyond a Reasonable Doubt". I certainly don't think most people, including critics, have actually seen the original.
I do think the critics resent it and this new version (not really a re-make) was universally panned by them.
Bye-bye audience.
