Worth Every Penny of the $1 Red Box Rental

Ok, here's my take, without knowing anything about the production: this is a straight-to-DVD film that was shot in about a week. The producers hired a major 'bankable' star, Michael Douglas, who looks like he worked a day or two on this film the way he sleepwalks through his lines, in order to boost sales. Douglas either took a percentage of the rentals/sales or took a heft salary for the entire couple of days he spent memorizing lines and shooting scenes.

It is mildly entertaining suspense thriller with the inevitable 'surprise twist' that anyone can see coming from a mile away.

However, given all that, it is entertaining enough to be worth the $1. If I had paid a whole $4 at Blockbuster, I would be royally ticked..

I agree with you on everything except that it is worth the dollar rental. Sorry, but I could think of other things I would rather spend a buck on than this POOR POOR movie. Bad casting, bad acting, ridiculous ending. Even the music sounded canned. I knew two seconds in (literally the first shot) that this movie was going to suck. It made sense in the writers mind but he did not bring us along. We had no reason to suspect Hunter and the cutesy, unrealistic dialogue was distracting throughout the film.

The two computer geeks were ridiculous. They added nothing. It seemed like a rip off of the geeks from Silence of the Lambs.

Bad directing, bad acting, bad dialogue, bad ending. Not even worth the buck it cost me at Red Box.

I felt the need to respond to the OP, since I was fortunate enough to rent this movie for free, however I still feel like I was cheated. I had a buy one get one free coupon for blockbuster this past weekend, and I was like a kid in a candy store. I just returned Hurt Locker(loved every second of that one), and I had my choice of any two movies. Orphan came highly recommended from a friend so I quickly grabbed that one. Then it was all down hill from there. I was searching for an encore with my girlfriend. We kind of sort of agreed on The Goods, to follow up the suspense horror with a light comedy, but then she saw this beauty on the wall. I knew it was going to be crap, but the plot sparked her interest, and there was no turing back. I got to pick Orphan, so she wanted this $hit. Needless to say, we both hated it, and I loved giving her a big fat wet....told you so!!!

"Now a question of etiquette, as I pass, do I give her the ass or the crotch."
