Spoilers: Good beginning, good ending, terrible middle

I had a huge problem with the middle of this movie. After the DA announces they discovered the victim's DNA on CJ's running pants the movie goes to hell until CJ's in prison. Here's what happens:

The DA's office figures out that they're being setup, and then reveals the fraudulent DNA evidense in order to follow and kill Finley. After the DNA link announcement, Finley's friend runs out of the place to get the DVD, but he can't find find it so he hauls it to the bank to get the backup, only haul it back to the courthouse. The entire time he's speeding, running lights, and doing all sorts of ridiculously dangerous things. Eventually he gets into an accident and dies (didn't see that one coming) Here are the problems:

1) Why'd the DA risk revealing fake DNA evidence? Why give the ball to CJ? Until that moment happens CJ's literally playing defense with a huge pile of circumstantial evidence working against him.

2) Why didn't either men have a copy of this life-or-death DVD on them at the courthouse?

3) There was no urgency. The DVD could have been presented tomorrow or next week. The more the DA pushes the bogus DNA evidence the more fraudulent they will appear once the DVD is revealed. The entire frantic Finley scene was unnecessary.

4) This was filmed in 2009. They should have made a dozen DVD-R backups and saved them in a dozen places. Ever heard of Carbonite? There should have been a copy there too. SD cards are tiny and hold more data than a DVD-R, so why didn't Finley keep one in his wallet? Why not have a copy on a USB keychain flash drive? Where were the original files that the camera recorded? Why no USB harddrive? I have more backups of the pictures of my cat than Finley had for files of profound personal and political importance.

When I saw the movie I especially thought about point no 2 mentioned above. Why the hell didnt he just bring the damn dvd to the courthouse.

I agree with you a lot -- particularly about Finley's big action scene. Also, that cop was pretty reckless about everything. Nobody saw any of this? ALSO, by the end the DA (played by Michael Douglas) was making so many non-descrete moves that the whole world could see that he was crooked. Too many people HAD to have known what he was doing.

3) When the last minute DNA for the pants came in after the pants had already been talked about, he realized they were on to them and felt fear and urgency. So he hurried hoping to get the DVD but he was too late. But yes, he should have had it on him at all times waiting for the right moment in court. He was probably so nervous about the whole plan like he was from the beginning that his heart wasn't into it and he just made a dumb mistake by not already having it with him.
