SPOILER....the stupidity of the co-worker
that guy was sitting in the court....WHY didnt he have the DVD in his bag ALREADY????

i asked myself the same question.... the movie was alright up until that point...
Good point.
And another thing, why only make one backup? In our day and age he could have made many, some of them stored on servers, especially considering that his friend's life was at risk.
While we're on the topic on the video, would it really have proven his innocence? Just like the receipts, he could have made that video after he committed the murder.
What is this "server" of which you speak? ;)
Entertaining movie, yes, but with a ton of aggravating plotholes that you could pilot a freaking AIRCRAFT CARRIER through. Actually, get right down to it and this movie is MOSTLY plothole. Envision a chainlink fence made of plot. Yeah.
Surprising enjoyable despite this huge setback, though. I don't feel like I wasted my time in watching it, even with all the junk. I won't be watching it for a second time, though, I can say that. Eh.
Kienan, I mean any server on the internet. What I was trying to get to is that since making an extra copy is basically free, I would have many many backups if my life depended on it.
shareI know, I was playing along with the apparent movie viewpoint, sorry if the humor didn't translate to text.
*I* know what a server is, but NO ONE in the entire movie seemed to. I couldn't agree with you more, actually. That was one of the biggest plotholes, I thought, and it nagged at me through the entire thing. A DVD is basically the worst storage they could chose. ANYTHING else would be better, pretty much. Having TWO DVDs and nothing else is ridiculous. As you say, you'd stash copies everywhere. You could even set it up to automatically email to a judge or someone after a set time if you wanted. But, no...DVDs.
Haha alright, didn't notice the ;) (early morning, no coffee)

He probably wouldn't have gotten the death penalty, though. The movie should have been called "Reasonable Doubt" rather than "BEYOND Reasonable Doubt".

exactly what i was thinking. he should have always had it on him and ready to roll. you're supposed to COME to court fully prepared
All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy
I had no problem with this. I don't think it was a good idea for the friend to always have the disk on him since it could have exposed the plan before the trial. So, the disk was in a safe place in the apartment but then the apartment was completely trashed. Then the backup disk was also in a safe place in the safe deposit box. This was a good plan except that the friend was killed.
The co-worker did fine but there was nothing he could do about a police detective that was going to destroy all of his possessions and kill him imo.

it's just in my humble opinion - imho -
Perhaps he could have emailed it to himself or kept it on a computer or pretty anything other than what he did. Of course, nobody cared at all when he died other than to be upset about the disk not being available. What a mess of plotholes and just some childish writing.
sharei was thinking the exact same thing..
shareWhy was the co-worker in such a rush to get the DVD from the Bank to the Court Room in the first place. It wasn't as if the closing arguments were going to happen within an hour. In fact, following the defense lawyer's request, the Judge recessed the trial until the following Monday morning.
The whole premise was absurd.
I think some people here are trying to find a solution to a problem when nothing can be done.

The friend was dead. Dead people can't read e-mails.
"or kept it on a computer"
His computer was going to be trashed by the detective. And oh yeah, he was dead.

And how would the friend know that.
"In fact, following the defense lawyer's request, the Judge recessed the trial until the following Monday morning."
1. I've been in court. The judge could have denied the motion.
2. The friend was trying to get the evidence to the lawyer. He thought it was needed asap.
3. But the other reason for the friend being in a hurry was that a detective had trashed the friend's apartment and the detective was chasing the friend and trying to kill him.

Forget about the DVD. Yes he should of had it on him. But if he did the movie would of been over right then and there. If the Producer had the disc he never would of been declared guilty. Therefore the girlfriend would never had to go on a fishing expedtion only to come up to the conclusion her boyfriend was not as innocent she thought. The missing disc was just a plot device to move the story to its conclusion.
The fact is he really didn't need the disc. Why didn't his lawyer do exactly the same thing his girlfriend did? I liked the movie but you had to suspend all reality while watching it. All of the people he came in contact with to set up evidence knew when things were bought and that the Producer was always with him. The dog itself would of been evidence enough to show he was innocent. The girlfriend knew he never had a dog before. Not only that it was very simple to show that evidence was planted after the fact by the pictures. As far as I see it he really did not need that disc to expose the DA.
"If the Producer had the disc "
Who are you talking about ?
The guy who was working with the main character was a Producer. And if he had the disc on him in court, where he should of had it the whole plot line would of fizzled out. Because they would of found out he set himself up.
shareThe writer had to create some sort of crisis involving the exonerating evidence, because (as noted above), it would have been senseless to end the movie at the 1:00 mark. The shameful part is that they chose to create drama in such baffling manner. The writer/director (Hyan?) could have done A LOT better. For instance, why not just kill the friend (and have the DVD be discovered later?) Because, as stated earlier, the DVD really didn't matter, as it posed the same "Well couldn't you have just created this DVD after the fact to try to prove your innocence?" Problem as the receipts for the pants, dog and shoes did. Also, he was really the murderer so...
