The entire time watching this I just wish I was watching COMMANDO. Steel drums, raging guitar riffs and all.
Yeah this movie is supposed to be set in the 80s. But a 2014 audience is watching it. We don't respond to that music in the same way anymore. It was a nice creative risk, but didn't pay off at all and ruined the movie in the process.

This film is a COMEDY taking the mickey out of a genre, like the Naked Gun films. Therefore its score is a clever, well considered pastiche of what the director thinks were all those cheesy old violent crime dramas from the 70s and 80s.

The movie was made for people that understand that it was purposely nostalgic in the tie period, the type of music used , and the fact that movies from that time often overused music in crime dramas. The writers and directors stated in the extras that he wanted people to fel that the movie was made during that time.
