Shane Oman's underwear in the remake?

Why do you think they didn't have Shane Oman wear gray briefs like he did in the original, and instead had him in a pair of colorful, striped boxer briefs? Do you think that Brian Altemus was too embarrassed to be seen in a pair of briefs, and instead requested to wear boxer briefs and so the filmmakers took pity on him? Or do you think it's just because so few guys wear briefs anymore that the audience wouldn't find it realistic (which would be sort of odd, since I don't think many guys would've been wearing briefs when the original movie was made either. I would've thought that the purpose of having him in that underwear was to make the situation more embarrassing for him, and not because it's what other guys his age would be wearing)?

I also wonder what brand of boxer briefs he was wearing, and if it was actually Brian's underwear that he brought from home and that he wears in his regular life or if it was supplied to him by the film's wardrobe department.
