Was Jenny The One...Spoilers

We were told he has done this before, And as the same as the rest of his conquest's teens, she was in love with him. But, I kept wondering even though this is true, he seemed to have found something different from Jenny.

Are we overlooking the fact that he may have fallen for her in a different or more sincere manner. Was she actually special to him. He could get another teen or young women if all he wanted was for virgin or teen sex, so why go back and try to win her again if he was not smitten with her.

The guy does have some REAL issues with women, But I wonder what else was going through his mind.

I dont think so. If he had really wanted to be with her, then he wouldve stayed to tell her parents he was married (not driven off!) and he wouldve left his wife.

He probably liked her but really I think he just enjoyed the adulation of a younger girl looking up to him. When he proposed to her, it seemed to be because he was jealous of her connecting with Danny at the club - he didnt like that she was turning her attentions to someone other than him (or that Danny was probably smarter than he was, so more Jennys equal).

I agree with that.
His proposal seemed a very spontaneous action fueled by jealousy after seeing Jenny dancing with Danny. He didn't even have a ring.

I also think in that scene Jenny looks unsure about the proposal / engagement but she gives in to him. The same when she finds out about him and Danny conning the old lady out of the painting - she knows its wrong but ignores it because she thinks its kind of exciting. Just a couple of moments that make clear how immature she actually is.

When she was at Oxford, she and her boyfriend met up for lunch with him. He also telephoned her in 1992 when she was working at the 'Independent on Sunday'. This makes me think that he thought more of her than the others.

reply

It makes me think that he wanted/needed to believe that he still had some hold over her.

The true story of an Lynn Barber said

There were other lessons Simon(a.k.a Davide) taught me that I regret learning. I learned not to trust people; I learned not to believe what they say but to watch what they do; I learned to suspect that anyone and everyone is capable of "living a lie". I came to believe that other people - even when you think you know them well - are ultimately unknowable. Learning all this was a good basis for my subsequent career as an interviewer, but not, I think, for life. It made me too wary, too cautious, too ungiving. I was damaged by my education.

She didn't really love him but was using him like he did use her to fuel his little fantasies of dating a schoolgirl like Lynn Barber had said.
That lesson truned her into some who can not trust anyone which is understandable since I have been in a similar situation as Jenny (a.k.a Lynn) which only makes us harder to trust anyone.

Simon is A.k.a Davide but the writers changed his name but people should read that novel an education is a great book.
