The opening sequence showing the soldiers at war wasn't all that interesting to me, and I almost turned it off, but I'm glad I stuck around. So far, this show is great. It's clever, and has interesting turns of plot, and it never plods. Too many shows drag along, but this one constantly delivers and moves on. I hope the resolution is as good as the build-up has been.
Have to agree - the whole mission/tunnel sequence which sets up the entire reason for the show, was one of the worst bits.
I too am happy I kept watching, and I enjoyed all 8 episodes way more than I thought I would.
When you finish the season, I’d be interested to hear when you had the ‘a-ha’ moment of who the final name on the list would be as so far no one has discussed it on here.
When they were in the car and Iron Maiden was playing, I started to think they were going to end with a reveal that Ben's was the final name. That was my least favorite aspect of the show, by the way. I know writers always try for some grand twist at the end, but sometimes (usually?) you don't need one, and it cheapens an otherwise great film. Had they omitted the existence of the unknown name the show would not have been any worse. Hartley's death ending the quest for revenge worked, and there was no need for him to have to murder his best friend, who had helped him get his revenge every step of the way. At the very least they could have made up, with Ben's reason for what he did being valid. In any event, other than that, I thought the show was perfect.
It was kind of obvious he was going to be in on it, my wife called it immediately, but I was hoping they wouldn't go that way. It reminds me of Bosch S1, very by the numbers and cliche atop cliche, but also extremely well acted.
