Well I've almost fallen asleep two or three times in the first hour. Must be the dullest movie I've seen in a long time. Maybe it gets better, who knows but I certainly won't - switching it off now, don't need to waste another hour of my life on this. Don't know where the 8.4 score comes from, I'd say it's a 3.
shareYes, it is slow but you need to be in a receptive state of mind to really appreciate this movie. This is the first Turkish movie that I saw and I must say I thought it was really, really good.

Dull? I guess you are the type of person that would think that Apocalypse Now is a boring movie. I'm not claiming that "Nefes" is as good as Apocalypse Now, yet it is a decent movie. A very good one indeed. Do you find movies like Apocalypse Now or Deer Hunter slowww, boring and dull?
And I might add that you missed the action. Well, no need to spoil it for anyone...
im with you simon knight... i fell asleep in the first hour..and woke up in the second part when the doctor attacks the fort...is not a bad movie..but is not that awesome either, maybe 7 but no 8.4...i really like the direction of the movie but that's all..is too slow. :(

It's good that it's dull in the first hour, it's so that the viewer connects to the military lifestyle: A lot of shouting telling you you must be alert on all times, yet months go by without any action whatsoever.
If you ever watch Das Boot (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0082096/) you'll understand what I mean.
As someone with personal contact to many of these characters in the movie I can say this is a VERY VERY accurate movie by the way.

Well, you've fallen asleep in the first hour and you've tried the watch 2 times more? You could turn off and never watch again. Or you could start from end of first hour on the second watch.
So, your argument is invalid and as i understand you'r lying. You are trying to discredit the movie.Please dont. Find another avocation.
"Fall asleep and you die" has a different, better tone in Turkish tho. It sounds a bit weird in English.
Plus, almost all Turkish movies take it slow until some point. There are some good, devoted action scenes at last 30 mins (if I remember true).
Since our movies are not going international (except some eastern countries), the penny-pincher directors are trying to film more trashtalking/poetry scenes to cut some more off from the budget and making it a 2 hours movie. Thats the reason that lies behind your boredom in first 1 hour (:
Agreed. Nothing really happens until the last half hour, and even that has stupid things like the soldier reciting poetry in the middle of the firefight...
