IMDb poll: Who is the central character of the Lord of the Rings?

Sauron IS the Lord of the rings. If the quest had failed, and he had retrieved the ring, he would have had complete control over all of the peoples of Middle-Earth. The Elves, Gandalf, and Galadriel wore the only rings that remained of all that originally existed, and the knowledge of them had been hidden from Sauron, but according to one of Tolkien's letters, because they were made under his instruction and were therefore subject to the control of the one Ring, when it was destroyed, the three lost their power. The entire Ring quest was to defeat the Lord of the Rings (Sauron), so even if he plays little active part in the story he is the moving force behind it.
That is why I voted for him as the central character.
