Seems to me that color swapping a fictional character is never a big deal. Why should it ever be a problem when the producer owns the rights to the character?

shareIt does seem to unnecessarily court controversy to do it now. I was watching the Magnificent 7 the other day where Denzel Washington took the Yul Brynner character and there was no uproar to my memory. I think that’s because Washington was perfect for the role and there was no impression he got it for purposes of virtue signaling or score settling. And he was great.
