So, more unhappy people.

Given that some people are losing their f**king minds over a black Ariel, what is the chance that these are the same people who are disappointed in a "not brown enough" Nani?

I would say no.

That said, I do look forward to watching this film. I want to see how Disney does giant space aliens on the live screen.

People getting triggered that a Hawaiian isn't 'brown enough' is hilarious. She's Hawaiian and so is the character she is to play.

Do idiots online think Polynesians are black or something? Ridiculous.

Obviously it works the other way around as well. I wonder how may of those who criticise the casting of Sydney Agudong were angry about the casting of Halle Bailey.

The general lesson here seems to be that colour swapping a character is always a bad idea.

Seems to me that color swapping a fictional character is never a big deal. Why should it ever be a problem when the producer owns the rights to the character?

reply

It seems to constantly be a big deal. I can't remember a single case of the past 10 to 20 years where it did not result in some level of uproar.

reply

A big deal to you does not mean a big deal to anyone else. We don't all need to be delicate snowflakes.

reply

It does seem to unnecessarily court controversy to do it now. I was watching the Magnificent 7 the other day where Denzel Washington took the Yul Brynner character and there was no uproar to my memory. I think that’s because Washington was perfect for the role and there was no impression he got it for purposes of virtue signaling or score settling. And he was great.

Has it ever occurred to you it might be the same people that supported Bailey's casting that are throwing a fit over Agudong's casting. But no, it seems you're trying to deflect away from the behavior of you're fellow leftists by blaming it on the right.
